The Victoria's Secret Fashion Show is returning to prime time this winter, albeit the outer limits of prime time.
CBS will be bringing sexy back Dec. 4 at 10 p.m., late enough, execs are hoping, to placate those concerned viewers out there who worry that all that low-cut lace is a little much for those whose bedtimes fall in the 8-10 p.m. range.
Heidi Klum, Adriana Lima, Karolina Kurkova and Selita Ebanks will be among the professional lovelies taking part in the nearly annual event, which was temporarily replaced by the Angels Across America tour in 2004. The lingerie showcase was booted from the airwaves in 2004 in the wake of Janet Jackson's nipple slip and then again the following year, to avoid antagonizing the FCC.
Ebanks and Kurkova joined Victoria's Secret president and CEO Sharen Tuney Monday at the New York Stock Exchange on Wall Street to ring the bell that opens the day's trading and announce the plans for this year's program.
4 a.m.
The girls are up and packing for their busy day before being collected at 5:30 a.m. for their morning TV appearances.
6 a.m.
Karolina totes her own cooler bag filled with home-prepared food, including "green juice" made from a blend of wheatgrass and vegetables.
"You never know what kind of food you're gonna get. When it's homemade, it's always better," she says, before slipping into a pale blue Chanel dress with Louis Vuitton sandals for her segment on Fox television's "Good Day New York."
Whatever she's drinking, it clearly works.
The look for the morning is "fresh but polished," says Linda Hay, head makeup artist for Victoria's Secret.
"I use a little bit of concealer, then a little bit of bronzer and a tiny touch of blush across the cheekbone. A sweep of liquid eyeliner across the top lash and a reddish stain to the mouth to help us transition more easily through the day."
7 a.m.
Selita's stuck in traffic before her slot on CW11, but manages to scarf a McDonald's steak, egg and cheese bagel with a hash brown and coffee during the wait.
"It's my favorite breakfast," she says, before dashing into the studio for hair and makeup.
The show's a success. Selita leaves the studio wearing a purple satin Derek Lam dress with black Fendi peep toe platforms.
"I got right into it. I love to talk, I could just talk forever," she smiles.
9 a.m.
The rain's coming down, and it's a mad dash through rush hour traffic to get the girls changed and downtown in time to ring the bell at the New York Stock Exchange at 9:30 a.m.
"There's a dress code for the stock exchange; no open toes or bare arms, but we didn't want to lose the Victoria's Secret sex appeal," says celebrity stylist Rebecca Resnick, who's spent the past week sourcing multiple looks for today's demanding schedule.
Karolina turns heads in a black Zac Posen dress with a Proenza Schouler belt and Manolo Blahnik heels. Selita wears a Zac Posen s***t and blouse with Fendi pumps.
"I like being with all the guys," says Karolina after posing for pictures with the traders. "There were some cute ones. The energy in there really gets your adrenaline going," she grins mischievously.
10.30 a.m.
It's on to outfit No. 3 already as the girls hit the Victoria's Secret flagship store in Herald Square for a live appearance and more TV.
Karolina emerges in a navy Philip Lim dress and YSL platforms while Selita sports a pretty floral Dolce & Gabbana dress with her own gold Jimmy Choo sandals.
"The store's always fun because we get to be goofy and just be ourselves. Everyone who works here is so supportive. I was doing an interview for BET and the staff was shouting 'Go Selita!' I really appreciate it," she says.
Noon
Dressed down in their own jeans, tanks and flats for the journey ahead, the girls grab lunch at the West Side helipad.
Karolina tucks in to a homemade zucchini soup while Selita chows down on a large turkey wrap.
Supermodels, it seems, really do eat.
"I'm the most unhealthy person when it comes to eating. I just don't care," says Selita, while Karolina plays deejay with her iPod, filling the room with Greek music from her recent vacation.
Conversation also turns to Selita's recent engagement to rapper and actor Nick Cannon, whom she speaks to on her cell throughout the day.
Flashing her blinding 12-carat diamond ring, Selita says, "I'm no Bridezilla. I'm fine with the courthouse."
2 p.m.
It's time for the helicopter ride to the Hamptons, but the weather isn't cooperating.
"It's pouring with rain, it's windy and it's a little bit foggy. I've never been on a helicopter before and I'm nervous," confides Selita.
But just 45 minutes later, the girls arrive safely at East Hampton's airstrip, where black Escalades await among the sea of small private jets.
3 p.m.
Karolina unpacks at her private Hamptons rental while a still hungry Selita finds her room and orders a burger at The Estate, the luxurious new 10,000-square-foot Sag Harbor venue that's playing host to the evening's Secret Garden party.
